Meet Dr. Stacy Kim Johnston

Ever since I can remember, I was happiest when singing. I used to sing with my grandmother, Mopsie, probably as young as three years old. I remember sitting next to the speaker, singing along to the Red and Blue Beatles albums for hours after school at age seven. I wrote my first purposeful song for my grandfather Louie after he passed when I was thirteen, but I had been writing poems long before that. I remember getting an award for one of my poems when I was in high school that was also featured in the HS newsletter. Writing has always helped me process emotions, and singing has always been my deepest form of expression, so songwriting quickly became therapeutic for me from the time I learned to read and write. As time went on, I realized my words are not just helpful for my own healing, but can also benefit others. I did not start sharing my own music publicly in the early stages of my singing career partly because of the vulnerability of doing so and also because I started singing with cover bands and originals were not what people expected (or wanted) to hear. Performing covers was fun, but much less personal. Now I am finding the stage as an outlet to not just entertain, but have found the confidence to use it in order to get my message out to the world in a very intimate (yet public) way, which is truly beautiful to me.

I love creating music and sharing it especially when it deeply touches people and connects me to them and to each other. I get so much joy out of reaching others in this way, whether it elicits tears or smiles and laughter. Songs are an amazing tool for bringing out emotions both musically and lyrically and I seem to have a knack for achieving that. Not all my songs are deep and emotional and not all my songs are about me, as sometimes I get inspired from observing what is out in the world and figuring out what the world needs, which includes songs that are simply light and fun. I must say though, that since my main focus for over 30 years has been on providing therapy to my clients, it is only natural for me, at this stage in my life, to have the desire to reach even more people through music, which I know from my personal experience to be a powerful form of healing.

I designed SongsbyStacy.com to share my music, inspire people, and to offer my songwriting and song development services as an opportunity for others to create songs that are personal and meaningful for themselves, their loved ones, and anyone else willing to listen. I will keep this website updated on the latest music developments, namely my new album and any new releases that follow as well as upcoming live tour dates! I also will be working on releasing music videos because I believe the visual presence of the singer and videography that accompanies a song can enhance the meaning and message intended to become more clear and powerful. Stay tuned!
